“The wilderness in the machine”: Glitch and the poetics of error

A glitch is a rupture in information flow, which forces the digital file out of its flawless hyperrealistic design to a reality of randomness and imperfection. A glitch is an error that reveals the hidden structure behind the machine. An increasing number of artists look for or cause glitches as a medium that provides an aesthetic result and an insight into the function of technology. This text analyses phenomena of error and randomness in contemporary artistic production, viewed through the theory of Deleuze.
